Jordan is not the cheapest outsourcing destination in the world, and it is not the largest. What it offers is a rarer combination, and this page explains it with numbers and their sources.
Jordan sits on UTC+3 all year, the same GMT+3 that Riyadh, Doha and Kuwait run on, so the schedule does not shift twice a year the way it does with Europe and North America. That gives eight hours of daily overlap with Central Europe on a standard Amman day and near total overlap with the Gulf, while North America needs a shifted day, which the timezone table below says plainly. The default working week runs Sunday to Thursday, the same week the Gulf works; against a Western Monday to Friday week that costs you a Friday and gains you a Sunday nobody on your side works, which is why we contract a Monday to Friday week for Western clients and say so in the agreement. The engineer is employed by Folowise on a formal Jordanian contract with social security, not engaged as a loose contractor, so you contract with one entity and receive one invoice. Three reasons
Jordan graduates computer and software engineers from universities including the University of Jordan, JUST, and Princess Sumaya University for Technology. The local tech sector did not grow to serve outsourcing; it grew around real regional products. That difference shows up in the questions an engineer asks you.
University engineering and computer science education in Jordan is delivered in English, and technical documentation and code review are written in it already. But we will not quote Jordan's rank on general English proficiency indices, because they measure the whole population rather than engineers, and because the number would not flatter us if we did. What matters to you is the person who will sit in your meeting, and that is what we measure and hand you a score for.
Jordan is on UTC+3 all year with no daylight saving. The gap to your team does not move twice a year, and the overlap with Europe and the Gulf is close to complete. With North America the overlap is real but shorter, and we show the numbers as they are rather than claiming full coverage.

Jordan's default working week is Sunday to Thursday, and yours is probably Monday to Friday. Left alone, you lose a full Friday from your team and gain a Sunday nobody on your side is working. We contract a Monday to Friday week for Western clients, we say so explicitly in the agreement, and we price it into the salary because we are asking the engineer to work on their local weekend. For Gulf clients the problem does not exist.
These figures are our own arithmetic, not a borrowed statistic: a client day of 09:00 to 17:00 local, against a standard Amman day of 09:00 to 18:00 or a shifted day of 13:00 to 22:00. The two numbers in each range are the winter and summer values, because your clock moves twice a year and ours does not: Jordan abolished daylight saving permanently in 2022 and stays on UTC+3. We do not sell "full coverage" for a timezone geography does not allow. A shifted day is a real option, but it is asked of the engineer with their consent and priced into their salary, and we turn it down when we can see it will not survive a year.

Partially, and honestly. With Europe and the Gulf the overlap is near total with no adjustment. With US East we propose a Jordan day of 13:00 to 22:00 which gives five hours of overlap, we get the engineer's consent for it, and we price it into their salary. Folowise employs them in Jordan on a formal employment contract, and pays salary, social security and applicable taxes. You pay Folowise one monthly invoice. There is no direct contractual relationship between you and the engineer, which is what protects you from worker-classification exposure.
For roles where we have a standing pipeline: a first shortlist within 5 working days of a clear brief, and your interviews the week after. The actual start depends on the engineer's notice period with their current employer, and Jordanian labour law requires a month on indefinite contracts. Realistic total: 3 to 6 weeks. We publish both numbers deliberately: anyone publishing "48 hours" alone means time to shortlist, not time to start, and is offering you whoever is unoccupied rather than the best people in the market.
